Hey, I'm Zhao Rui!

I'm a Computer Science undergraduate at the National University of Singapore, working toward network and infrastructure engineering — CS2105 behind me and CS3103 in progress. I came to it from mechatronics — a robot cell driven wirelessly over ROS, where the interesting problems turned out to sit between the machines rather than inside any one of them — and I have stayed near that layer since: I teach CS2100 Computer Organisation labs, and I spent last year shipping features to production and triaging live errors on a mobile app at Snowball.

A brief timeline

2019–2022
Mechatronics & robotics: Diploma with Merit at Singapore Polytechnic. Led a vision-aided collaborative robot cell running on ROS and OpenCV, driven wirelessly rather than from the panel — the first system I built where the hard part sat between two machines that did not speak the same protocol. Bronze Project Award.
2022–2024
Singapore Armed Forces: Deputy Operations Officer, coordinating daily operations for a battalion of over 200 — a job that is mostly getting the right information to the right people before a deadline, and noticing early when it has not arrived. Wrote a Telegram bot in Google Apps Script to automate the administrative traffic nobody should have been moving by hand, which is where automating operations stopped being someone else’s problem.
2024–now
Computer science at NUS: Computer networks — CS2105 done, CS3103 in progress — alongside operating systems, computer organisation, algorithms, databases and AI/ML, and now teaching the computer organisation half of that as a CS2100 lab TA. HDB Study Award, 2nd runner-up at the NUS Fintech Summit 2026 for Mingle, and a member of NUS Fencing.
2026–now
Running things in production: Shipped full-stack features on a React Native app at Snowball — phone verification, a Strava API integration, an AI activity classifier — then watched them behave in production through Sentry and PostHog and fixed what did not. Now doing product management with NUS Developer Group and teaching CS2100.
